James Gannon was selected as Ireland's representative in Symposium du Granit des Marches de Bretagne, France. The sculpture is titled Passage and is sited at Aire de Cogles, A84.

This carving represents the environment of Brittany (a peninsula surrounded by seas). This representation in itself becomes a cultural object in the same way as mankind's manipulation of the environment creates a culture.
